Rhinoplasty at Abbey Wood Hospital
Rhinoplasty in London – Specialist Consultant-Led Care
What Is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the nose to improve its appearance, function, or both. Whether you are concerned about the profile of your nose, its width, the tip, or a structural issue affecting your breathing, rhinoplasty at Abbey Wood Hospital is performed with precision and care.
Every procedure is consultant-led and carried out within our fully equipped in-house surgical theatre — not a day clinic. Our approach prioritises facial harmony and natural outcomes over dramatic change.
We offer cosmetic rhinoplasty, septorhinoplasty (which combines functional and aesthetic correction), and revision rhinoplasty for patients seeking to improve on a previous procedure.

Surgery Performed in a CQC-Registered Hospital — Not a Clinic
Abbey Wood Hospital is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Your rhinoplasty is performed in our dedicated in-house surgical theatre, with a consultant anaesthetist present throughout.
This is not a walk-in cosmetic clinic. Every patient is assessed thoroughly before surgery is recommended. You will receive a structured recovery pathway, post-operative support, and scheduled follow-up appointments as part of your care.
Our surgical team has extensive experience in facial surgery, and we maintain strict clinical standards from your first consultation through to your final review.
Types of Rhinoplasty We Offer
Cosmetic Rhinoplasty
Cosmetic rhinoplasty addresses the appearance of the nose — reducing a dorsal hump, refining the tip, adjusting the width, or improving overall facial balance. Surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and tailored to your facial proportions.
Septorhinoplasty (Functional + Aesthetic)
Septorhinoplasty corrects both the internal structure of the nose and its external appearance. It is recommended when a deviated septum is causing breathing difficulties alongside cosmetic concerns. This combined approach delivers functional and aesthetic improvement in a single procedure.
Revision Rhinoplasty
Revision rhinoplasty is performed for patients who have had a previous nose surgery and are seeking correction or refinement. This is a more complex procedure and requires careful pre-operative assessment. Our consultant will evaluate your case individually before any decision is made.

FAQs
How long does rhinoplasty surgery take?
Rhinoplasty typically takes between one and a half to three hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure. Septorhinoplasty may take slightly longer due to the internal structural work involved.
Is general anaesthetic used?
Yes. All rhinoplasty procedures at Abbey Wood Hospital are performed under general anaesthetic, administered by a consultant anaesthetist who is present throughout your surgery.
How long does swelling last after rhinoplasty?
Initial swelling and bruising typically begin to settle within two to three weeks. However, subtle residual swelling — particularly around the tip — can take up to twelve months to fully resolve. Final results are assessed at your long-term follow-up.
When can I return to work after rhinoplasty?
Most patients are able to return to desk-based work within ten to fourteen days. You will be advised to avoid strenuous activity, exercise, and contact sports for a minimum of six weeks.
Will rhinoplasty affect my breathing?
Cosmetic rhinoplasty is designed to preserve normal breathing. If you have an existing breathing concern, septorhinoplasty may be the more appropriate option, as it addresses both the internal nasal structure and the external appearance simultaneously.
When will I see my final results?
You will notice a significant change once the cast is removed at approximately one week. However, as swelling gradually reduces over the following months, your final result becomes fully visible at around twelve months post-surgery.
What is included in the consultation fee?
Your initial consultation includes a full clinical assessment, a discussion of your goals, an explanation of the surgical options suitable for you, and an honest appraisal of expected outcomes. Surgery costs are discussed following assessment and are specific to your procedure.
Is rhinoplasty suitable for everyone?
Rhinoplasty is most suitable for patients who are in good general health, non-smokers or willing to stop smoking prior to surgery, and have realistic expectations. Our consultant will confirm suitability at your consultation.
